Theme Wars – You Vote For The Best Affiliate Themes

Posted by Derrick On July - 25 - 2009

Theme WarsI just received an email from Nate Whitehill that they are launching a new theme store called Theme Wars. Theme Wars will feature a wide variety of WordPress themes available for purchase. You can visit the site at ThemeWars.com.

As you can probably tell by the name, Theme Wars is not just a theme store – there is a little bit of a twist.

Here is how it works:

  1. Eack week, any blogger can submit into this weekly theme wars.
  2. The theme war will then be a contest to design a particular type of theme (e.g. magazine, business, etc.) as voted on by the community (via poll) the week before.
  3. The best two designs which the community votes for will be sold in the Theme Store. The winning designers will receive 25% and 10%, respectively, each time their winning design sells. Simply wonderful ideas.

This launch is one of the most anticipated theme store launches EVER and one that will surely generate a lot of buzz.

2009-07-26_121655

I must say that this is an opportunity for designers to earn money by submitting their designs into the Weekly War. They not only will be receiving a percentage of each sale, they will also earn a spot in the “Featured Designers” page, that actually gave them the exposure for their branding and also additional marketing.

Then for blogger like myself, it simply gave me access to a wide range of themes from a wide range of different designers.

Pricing wise, themes are be priced at $69 for a multi-use license to $149 for a developer license (includes Photoshop documents). Monthly membership is also available to get access to all of the themes available and this is a great package for blogger who wish to try out a variety of themes or for bloggers with multiple blogs and wish to give each one a unique look.

Standard pass to Theme Wars cost $20 per month plus a one-time payment of $147 which you could access to all past, present and future themes, as well as unlimited access to the support forum, documentation, video tutorials and theme updates, etc..

Developer pass cost $27 per month plus a one-time payment for $177 and this monthly membership gives you access to all past, present and future themes, as well as unlimited access to the support forum, documentation, video tutorials, theme updates and Photoshop files, etc..

The first war at Theme Wars features the war of the magazine themes.  Go to Theme Wars and cast your vote now!

Article Spinner – A Writing Software

Posted by Derrick On July - 21 - 2009

Article Spinner - A Writing Software

If you are an internet marketer and still trying to get used to the trends of online businesses, most likely you’ve faced all kinds of new ideas and suggestions in forums, blogs, and other online sources related to internet marketing.  And in these sources, you will notice that most professional internet marketers would discuss about different strategies and internet marketing tools that they would use to increase web traffic, conversions, and eventually actual sales of their own products online.

For this article, we will be talking about one of the most interesting tools being used, especially for the content of sales pages, blogs, and websites, which are the article spinners.  If you’ve never heard of an article spinner before, then continue reading because this might be your ticket to increasing sales and bursting traffic.

An article spinner is basically a writing software that rewrites and modifies the wording and structure of sentences in order to produce different and unique copies of an original article.

Not only that, it is able to retain the message of the original article in all of the copies it can produce, which makes it a productive tool when trying to post several articles in different blogs and websites.  Internet marketers who do not have the time and the energy to reproduce, rewrite, and post numerous articles in their blogs and websites would simply use article spinners to do the job.  It’s not only convenient but affordable as well as compared to hiring ghost writers to do the job.

So why do internet marketers need to create so much content?  Writing good articles and blog posts is usually the key to earning a lot of money through internet marketing.  By being able to come up with wonderful content, you are discreetly yet at the same time effectively advertising your products to customers who can only read about the products being sold online.

But as mentioned before, writing and rewriting can take a lot of time and effort on the marketer’s part, so they use article spinner software instead.  Another reason why they use article spinners is because submitting one original article to numerous directories can be detected by search engines like Google, surfacing the possibility of only one of your articles being linked to the entered keyword and leaving out all the rest in the next three to four pages.  This lowers down your chances of gaining more traffic, and of course, more sales as well.

But take note that not all article spinner software being sold online produce well-rounded rewritten articles.  There are those that do not function well or are actually fake software being sold by scammers in order to earn money out of you.

Just remember that with the right tools and the right way of using this kind of software, you’ll be able to produce high quality rewrites of your own articles and have them submitted and posted in all of your websites and blogs without each one falling behind in the search result pages.

Make Use of Offline Method to Promote Online Business

Posted by sabrina On July - 20 - 2009

Make Use of Offline Method to Promote Online BusinessWhen you hear the word “internet marketing”, you would normally assume that everything from transactions to communication, payments to refunds, and the like, all take place in the World Wide Web and nowhere else.

This kind of trend has been going on for years now and to such extent that people from all over the world are actively buying and selling through internet marketing and all of its fields and categories in order to make a stable passive income online.

But lately, especially with the use of outsource services and automation these days, there have been cases where people are able to make money offline but provide a particular kind of service that they would be interested in online.

The offline factor points to the customers themselves, in which actual advertisements are being used to attract them to the sales page or website for more information. This idea is not only a great way to save up on costs for online services but can actually expand one’s business in both ways: offline and online.

If you’re wondering how to make use of offline method to promote online business, it’s actually very possible and is even slowly becoming the hottest internet marketing trend today.

How so ?

Let’s look at it through an example: Because of the financial crisis plaguing the country, a lot of business owners (those who own actual establishments like restaurants and stores) are having a difficult time keeping their businesses running and are spending a lot of money on advertisements and agency services.

They are especially aiming for a website to promote their businesses online but are hindered in finishing the transaction by the expensive charges most web designers are imposing on them. So you can just imagine how valuable you can actually be to these people if you provide them with all their needs for just a few hundred dollars a month.

You just need a few important tools to make use of offline method to promote online business: knowledge on internet marketing (PPC, SEO, etc), outsource services, and good communication skills. If you’re able to pull all of these things off, you can already earn as much as $10,000 per month and not have to sweat too much on the hard work.

So what actually happens when the website is finished? The advertisements are still in place, but with the new website posted as well. Once customers see that there is a website and a few contact numbers, they would visit the website and read what the business is actually about.

If interested, the customer can sign up in the mailing list and will receive email updates such as events and promos going on in the business, breaking open the opportunity of earning hundreds of dollars through a few emails alone.

It is actually a very simple process and very possible to expand and grow, but it also takes good people skills and the ability to assure clients that they are being offered a greater deal than what the advertising companies and web designers are actually offering to them.

Making of Internet Marketing Skills to Make Money Offline

The World Wide Web has become the ultimate and most convenient source of information for people all over the world, which explains why a lot of internet marketers are striving hard to earn a stable income through their online businesses.

Trends of all kinds have evolved, been adopted by hundreds of online businessmen and women, and are constantly being used to make sales and break quotas for many years.

But there is a new trend that enables internet marketers to actually expand their businesses and services even more, and that’s through offline internet marketing.  The term sounds like an oxymoron, but it is possible and has proven to be very lucrative to many internet marketers already.

Internet marketers all over the world are now learning how to making of internet marketing skills to make money offline.  They do this with the help of outsourcing services and automation in terms of advertising their businesses to offline customers.  This enables them to save time and effort on the actual work with regards to the website and at the same time can appeal personally to their clients the services and benefits they are going to get through their internet marketing skills.

For example, an internet marketer can set up ads about his or her business all over his or her area in order to get the potential customers’ attention.  They place the website of their business, contact numbers, email addresses, and wait for the calls and emails to start coming in.  They then hold meetings, rendezvous, and all kinds of get-togethers to be able to explain how the system will go, how the website will bring in the benefits and profits, and how much they are going to be spending every month.

Your clients will probably be wondering what they are going to get from the websites, which is your cue in letting them in on the possibilities that internet marketing can provide.  For instance, if the website you are building is for a restaurant, customers who are interested can easily access the official website, read through the content, and if they are interested can sign up in the mailing list to be able to get updates such as events, promos, new menus, etc.

Not only is traffic going to build up but sales will be booming through several well-written emails alone.  This scenario is internet marketing working at its best already.

When it comes to making of internet marketing skills to make money offline, personality and communication skills are also very important.  This is so because you will be dealing with clients who more or less do not have an idea of how much they will be spending for internet marketing services, how much they are going to earn from the websites to be built, and the like.

By offering them a price that they cannot refuse and are very affordable as compared to the expenses on actual advertisements, you can easily get your clients hooked on to you like never before.  What’s more, you don’t have to be the one working day and night in creating websites and hosting them up online since there are very trusted outsourcing companies all over the world who can do that for you.  All it takes is a few hours per day monitoring the system and progress of your clients’ websites and you’ll be earning over $10,000 per month.

Generate Traffic By Posting on Forums

Posted by Derrick On July - 8 - 2009

So you have just built your new website. It’s been indexed by all of the major search engines, but nobody is coming to see exactly what’s on your site. If you expect your site to do well without any effort on your part, then you are clearly mistaken.

Building a website is only half the work. Now you need to spend a lot of your time making sure that people know your site exists.

There are lots of ways to go about advertising for your site. You can pay for pay per click advertising with services like Google’s Adwords, you can enroll in a link exchange program with other websites that are in a similar niche, or you can do something like posting in forums to build up your traffic.

Forums are a valuable tool for many reasons.

First off, they provide the site they are hosted on with plenty of traffic because they heavily contribute to the search engine score of a site. Secondly, they can be used as a major asset for someone looking to get the word out about their brand new site.

In order to make sure that you receive valuable customers, you need to first find a forum to post on that has some similarity to your site’s niche. Are you selling fishing supplies? Find a fishing forum. Once you have found a forum that is suitable for your needs, sign up and start joining in the conversation. When you feel the time is right, place a link to your site in your signature. Doing so will make your link appear each and every time you make a post on that forum.

Now, you may be thinking that if one post is good, then spamming a forum must be better. Whatever you do, don’t spam any forums. You will just make the members there angry and there may be some backlash in the community against your website.

YouTube Marketing Campaign

Posted by sabrina On July - 6 - 2009

youtube200x120-150x120

Some Basic Elements of a Successful YouTube Marketing Campaign

YouTube has taken off as one of the premier places to market goods and services. As different people have developed or adapted methods to get the most out of a YouTube marketing campaign, a few essentials have come to be recognized as important to any successful attempt to harness the power of YouTube for buying and selling.

Here are a few examples.

YouTube is a visual media event. This means that one of the main elements in a campaign using the site will have to include visual aspects that will be sure to catch the eye. While these may vary depending on the products that are being sold, there is no doubt that choosing subjects with visual impact can make or break the success of the presentation.

Many people make a decision within three seconds of whether to view the video all the way through, so capturing interest immediately is crucial.

Along with visuals, there should be some interesting audio elements to the YouTube marketing campaign. Often, this is done with music.  In fact, a number of recording artists make good use of YouTube as a medium for promoting new releases or to publicize upcoming concerts. Even products that rely on other forms of audio, such as comedy routines, have to include dialogue that is catchy and will hold the viewer’s attention.

One last vital element of any successful YouTube marketing campaign is that it has to reach resolution within a reasonable amount of time. Consumers do not have the attention span they once had. This means the campaign must capture the attention, deliver the point, and direct the consumer to the sale in a very short period of time.

Presentations that are too long run the risk of losing the viewer before the presentation gets around to asking for the business, thus defeating the whole purpose.

Reasons Why Blogging is the New Internet Marketing Tool

Posted by Derrick On June - 26 - 2009

blogging150x120

Blogging is a concept that started in late 90s. It used to be a way to comment an existing webpage, an opportunity for visitors and readers to react or voice out one’s opinion on the said page. What started as a single-sentence commentary has evolved into pages of personal take on just about anything and everything under the sun. As it continues to move forward, online advertising has tapped into the blog’s potential. Here are 5 reasons why you should use blogging as an Internet marketing tool.

1.Blogging is simple.

The simplest way to get your piece on the net is through blogging. No skills are necessary… an average adult can read and type, or at least click a mouse. It’s like having a virtual piece of paper and you just write your ideas, experiences, new products, and hope that the truth behind your articles comes out and entice your reader to also try your product. If you have a PC and an Internet connection (who doesn’t?) then you can blog and advertise.

2. Blogging is authentic.

In this day and age where advertising saturate our lives, we question the credibility of promoters’ claims. However, in blogs, real people share their real-life experiences, unscathed by paid advertising. Reading blogs about first-hand product use is like talking to people about their first-hand experience. You definitely want to buy a tried and tested product.

3. Blogging is free.

Because blogging is yet to be proven as a mainstream online advertising media, most sites see it as something to augment current marketing tools and thus offer it for free. Any opportunity for free webtime is definitely a bonus especially to businesses that are starting up. Needless to say, paid blog pages can generate more income for your seriously growing business.

4. Blogging builds credibility.

As you get more and more into writing your experiences on a particular product or industry, your readers come to realize that they can depend on your posts for their own information needs. As such, you become an expert on it; as a consequence, more readers visit your site and more bloggers link to your blogs. As companies and professional organizations notice the growth of your readership base, they may soon get in touch with you for advertising on your blog page, or make you an affiliate, which pays for every referral generated from your blog site.

5. Blogging builds your market.

Unless you are a Hollywood star, chances are, only your Mom reads your posts. Mom has a lot of friends, so she lets her friends know how interesting your blog site is. But you need not depend on Mom to increase your readership base. Look into the following ways to build your market through blogging:

-By using your e-mail. Today, blogging is overcoming the e-mail’s popularity in quickly and effectively reaching and expanding a market. In this age of speed and quick access, logging in and downloading e-mail is simply taking longer than clicking into a blog site. Let them explore your site by using a short e-mail message as teaser to your blog site. If your e-mail is on an entirely different subject, use your e-mail signature to give a link to the site.

-By using subscription. An easy way to get your readers e-mail is to give them an opportunity to subscribe to your blogsite. Keep some exclusive information for your subscribers to entice readers to subscribe and give their e-mail address. Just be responsible in using their e-mail address, as the last thing you want is a comment on your blog that you are a spammer.

-By understanding your readers. Conduct a simple survey for your readers to understand their profile and advertising preferences. Ask consumers to give you feedback on a post, an ad link, or a trial that you shared. In this way, it is like interviewing your readers without the commitment and intrusion of a face-to-face interview.

-By joining a blog network –A network of blogs maybe a collection of blog sites that share the same industry, interest, readership base, payment mode, etc. Consumers find credibility and convenience in clicking one link to several real bloggers about a single subject. Clearly, more bloggers are better than one.

-By using RSS. RSS is the fastest growing technology on the Internet today. As such, having RSS feeds to your blog is definitely another means of generating awareness for your readership base. Having a variety of feeds can add interest to your blog site.

Give your business a boost by effectively using blogging as an Internet marketing tool.

Getting Started With Video Blogging

Posted by sabrina On June - 24 - 2009

videobloggingVideoblogging is the next generation of posting ideas and products over the internet. Everybody knows about textblogging. Now they use videos for a better way of expression. This form of communication may entail a lot of resources, but it is all worth it. If pictures say a thousand words, videoblogging exceeds that by far.

A videoblog requires larger disk spaces on websites, a faster server, and a whole new set of programs to support it. Videoblogs can be fed through RSS. This is technology of syndicating your website to other RSS aggregators.

Videoblogging works with people on the internet expressing their selves. Now if you put this on a business prospective, you are up to a lot of benefits. Think of it as a powerful tool in making showing your prospective customers your line of products or your services. It’s just like showing a commercial all for free. And if you videoblog through RSS, then most probably you are getting your target market.

People like to see what they are going to buy. Some would like to see proof and be sure that they are getting their money’s worth before shelving their dimes on it. All of us know the influence of a thirty second commercial. The effect of videoblogging is similar to that. You show your product, people watch it. If they like it, they buy it. If you present it good enough, they’ll buy the product even if they don’t need it.

Now on the web, things are pretty much static, unlike in television in which all are moving. If you post something that is mobile, it would most likely catch attention. Now imaging your product parading in all it’s royalty through videoblog. You’ll get phone call orders in no time.

If your business is just starting up, you can create a videoblog right at your own home. All you need is your web camera, microphone, video software, and lights. For as long as you know how to use your camera, then you can create a videoblog.

Invest in a good web camera. The higher its resolution is the better the output. And you like to present your goods in the optimum way so get the best one possible. Make a short story, or just capture your goods in one go. Just make sure you are getting the best profile for each. Get those creativity juices flowing.

Lights are important in a production. Make sure you illuminate entirely the area you are going to use to create videoblog. The brighter the area, the crispier the images will be. You can also use lighting effects for added appeal to the presentation.

Should you require sounds for your videoblog, you need a microphone. Record you voice as a voice over for promoting the product and its benefit to consumers. Sounds are as important as videos on a videoblog. It is advisable to make your sound effects as enticing as the video.

Your video editing software can be any program. You need this to finalize your work. You can add sounds, delete some bad angles, or insert some still pictures in there too. Some programs are user-friendly and can be used even with zero knowledge on video editing. Even simple video editing programs should do the trick. Select your background carefully too. The light affects the presentation so make sure that the background and the light complements each other.

Videoblogging is a great tool but it also has it downside. It may slow down the computer so other may steer clear of it. Download time may also be time consuming especially if customer is still on a dial- up connection.

But don’t let those stop you. Let videoblogging be an alternative for you, though it is best to still keep the text and pictures present in your presentation to accommodate all possible viewers of your site.

Nowadays, the more creative you are in presenting your product to the market, they more you are likely to succeed. Videoblogging offers an interactive way of selling. You involve the customers. You instill in them the advantage of your goods. And at times, those are enough to make a sale.

Stress Of Online MLM Business

Posted by Derrick On June - 23 - 2009

mlm2Are you looking online for a possible MLM business avenue of creating income and relieving you of your present burdens?

You are not alone. Many individuals see the potential for building their own business from wherever they are on this globe by means of the Internet. The online MLM business provides a level playing field and appeals to men and women of all ages as a prospective means of conducting business from the comfort of home.

However, despite the fact that running a business through the Internet can often be less expensive than a traditional business and allows you access to a worldwide market at any time of the day, the truth behind starting an MLM business online is that it can be as stressful as any other business. How can you prepare yourself for this obstacle?

Always wear your “game face”.

It is a tough game to start an online MLM business. You are guaranteed to experience times when your self-confidence is shaken, you feel the task is beyond your abilities and you beat yourself up for making mistakes.

Move on. It is part of creating business and you will have to face these issues whether it is your first attempt or even if you have been in the MLM business online for years. Changes happen fast on the Internet and that includes changes to businesses. One day you will be amazing yourself and the next day you will think you’ve been beat.

The best solution to this is to expect it and plan to move on despite those feelings.

Forget the hype.

Nearly every business can benefit from online MLM business exposure.

Are you inspired by the many programs that claim “instant wealth – easy to learn!”? Do not believe it. Regardless of if you have been in business for a long time or this is your first attempt, online MLM business done through the Internet has it’s own methods and you better be ready to learn them if you want to make money.

The learning curve can be steep and some individuals find it daunting. The good thing to remember is that it is possible for nearly anyone to operate an MLM business online no matter what their previous experience. Just be prepared to learn and have patience with your attempts.

Do not use all your money.

It is easy to forget the need for a budget when you can spend money so easily online. Do not buy into every MLM business opportunity online or training program. Visit online forums to acquire a feel for the best systems available. Make friends on these forums that will support you when you are overwhelmed or needing advice.

The only thing worse than finding out you made a mistake is finding out that it cost you money. Remember that every experience is a learning experience. Try to stick to a budget but do not permit yourself to dwell on mistakes when they happen. Learn and move on.

Taking the necessary steps to prepare you for the stress and rejection that all new MLM business owners’ online face will enable you to build on that knowledge and create a successful business.

Fortunately, there are many who do not make it that far in the online MLM business. So that leaves the wide open for you.

Guide to Blogging

Posted by Derrick On June - 22 - 2009

A blog is basically an online journal wherein you can digitally pen down your thoughts, ideas, opinions and practically anything that you want people to read. Blogs come in different styles, formats, and settings, depending on the preference of the user. Many blogging sites, offer built in features such as hyperlink, straight texts, pictures etc. Some blogging sites, even allow you to put video and mp3’s on your blogs.

Instead of writing texts, some bloggers choose to make their blogs more audio friendly, by using spoken word entries. This is called audio blogging.

Basically a blog contains these features:

title- which allows you to label your post
body- this is the content of your post
trackback- other sites can be linked back to your blog
permanent link- every article that you write has a URL
comments- this allow readers to post comments on your blog.

One of the advantages of blogging, is that it is made of only a few templates. Unlike, other websites that is made up of numerous individual pages. This make it easier for blog users to create new pages, because it already has a fix setting that include: slots for title, body of the post, category, etc.

This is especially useful for first time users, since they can start blogging right away. They can chose from a number of templates that blogging websites provide.

Anyone who wants to start a blog can do so by becoming a member of a blogging website of their choice. Once they’ve become members, they automatically become a part of that particular blogging community. They can browse through other bloggers pages, and link them back to their own blogs. They can also make comments on other members’ blogs.

Blogging is not just limited to personal usage. There are a lot of blogs that follow a theme such as: sports, politics, philosophy, social commentary, etc. These blogs espouse on their specific themes. This way blogging becomes a medium in which people can share their knowledge and opinions about a variety of themes and topics.

Some bloggers even use their blogs as a means to advertise. Some authors advertise their books on their blogs. While other bloggers, use their blogs to shed light to currents issues, events, news and catastrophes.

Nowadays in education, blogs also play an important part. Professors use blogging to document the lessons that they have discussed and taught. This way, students who who have missed classes, can easily catch up with their assignments.

A lot of entrepreneurs benefit from blogging by promoting their businesses on their blogs, with millions and millions of people logging onto the net everyday, blogging has become a lucrative move. Take The Home Based MLM Business Opportunity Ride

Posted by Derrick On June - 22 - 2009

Is it possible to enter into a home-based MLM business opportunity over the Internet? Why not? The “yes” will answer you right in front of your face. Everything is possible with the participation of Internet especially in the modern business transactions.

But is home-based MLM business opportunity feasible and profitable? How can one succeed in this kind of business?

Are you ready to take a ride into the four-step procedures toward a successful home-based MLM business?

Here they are:

Step number 1. Recruit First

Why do you have to recruit first instead of doing other things?

Home-based MLM business opportunities are network marketing. It is composed of uplines and downlines.

Uplines are independent representatives who recruit another independent representative which they will use in the direct selling of goods and services to customers. Put simply, the recruiter is the upline. They get their commission on the sales of the other independent representatives.

On the other hand, the recruited independent representatives are the downlines. Home-based MLM business opportunity is a commission-based joint effort of uplines and downlines.

That is the main reason why both uplines and downlines must work together. Without the other, the whole business force will be paralyzed. It will not function.

What does this mean? Both parties share the same level of importance or significance to the group. Try to imagine a home-based MLM business opportunity without uplines and downlines? It does not seem right, isn’t it? You’re going to have these four (4) “NO”:

If you do not have recruited independent representatives or if they are not working effectively, there will be no income, no consumption of products and services, no one to market the products and services and no one will cater the customers.

Step number 2. Maintain the minimum sales required.

Home-based MLM business opportunities are so simple yet requires careful analysis of the sales income. You have to be a mathematician on this part to be able to tally your expenses and revenues.

Everyday, independent representatives market the products and services. So make it a habit to tally the income entering everyday and the expenses leaving every hour.

Step number 3. Monitor the consumption of products and services.

Check your inventory. There is no further explanation needed as it is stated clearly enough. This simply means maintaining the minimum stock of products available to avoid having an empty or void stock.

Step number 4. Train your downlines regularly.

In every field, learning is always a requirement. Even if you are a teacher, you still need to study and learn.

The thing here is to have a constant training schedule for the downlines. Study shows that a well-instructed downline creates a big difference than the downline with stagnant information in mind.

Constant study really pays at the end. Some of the recommended topics are proper customer treatment, how to communicate effectively, business ethics, and everything that is needed to help them as well as your home-based MLM business.

If you have already taken into account all the procedures needed to have a successful home-based MLM business opportunity, you are now ready towards establishing that career path.

The formulas are already in your hands. All that is needed now is to get it into effect. The only thing missing to complete the home-based MLM business opportunity is you.

Five MORE Ways To Make Your Web Writing Clear

Posted by Derrick On May - 23 - 2009

There are very precise challenges in writing for the Web, wholly separate from making sure your writing is concise and economical. There is the matter of clarity, which can both be sacrificed in an attempt at artificial wordiness, as well as an attempt at brevity.

And while brevity may be a writer’s best friend, it must not come at the expense of clear writing. What good is a message, after all, if no one can understand it? Throw in the added troubled of keywords and targeting for search engine optimization, and it becomes even more difficult to make sure you’re getting your point across.

If you are looking for some ways to inject life into your Web writing and still keep an audience, you’ve come to the right place. Here are five great ways to clean up those articles and keep your readership coming back for more.

#1. Keep It Truthful. You might think-what does telling the truth have to do with writing clearly? But it actually has a lot to do with it. We have a tendency to ‘overthink’ and overwrite things when we don’t know what we’re talking about, or when we know what we’re saying is BS. Your audience will know it, too. Whenever possible, stick to what you know, and stick to what’s true.

#2. Get To The Point Already! A lot of writers have a tendency to fall in love with their words as they flow onto the page. Those rich phrases and words may be great for that 18th century potboiler you’ve got cooking, but they won’t do you any good when writing for the Web. Surfers, potential buyers, and your normal, everyday readers don’t want to be bothered and taxed by flowery, incomprehensible drivel.

If you have a word sitting in your article that you haven’t heard used in speech in the last week, chances are you can find a better word. Your writing will be the clearer for it, and therefore better.

#3. Keep Your Writing Edgy. This doesn’t mean you have to start peppering your articles with four letter words or controversial opinions on the Holocaust. It just means making sure what you’re writing is something that hasn’t been said already, most likely a million and one times. If you’re bored writing it, chances are the reader will be bored reading it.

#4. Make Sure You Do HAVE a Point. If you’re one of those writers who likes to get off on tangents that have little relevance to the thrust of your article, it’s time to nip that particular bad habit in the bud. It might be fine for the first draft, but it won’t do for the final copy. While we’re on the subject. . .you are writing at least two drafts, right? Right?

#5.Summarize. This is an easy one, but it’s something missing from more web articles than you’d believe. You’ve brought the reader all this way, so don’t leave them hanging at the end of the article. Let them know why they just read what they read. Make them understand why it’s important. Otherwise, they might think you just wasted their time, and that’s not good for repeat readership.

So, speaking of summaries, that’s about it. Writing for the Web has a plethora of advantages over writing for print mediums. You can turn a concept into an article in a day, and have people reading it tomorrow. But there are other differences as well, and that includes the style of writing.

Make sure you understand those differences, and apply the rules above to your writing. Your readers will thank you, and your writing will intrinsically improve.
